Margot Robbie’s recent film projects only amplify her range as an actress: Last year, she starred as Queen Elizabeth I in Mary Queen of Scots; this year, she plays Sharon Tate in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood; and next year, she is slated to take on the role of Barbie—yes, the doll!—as well as return to one of her signature roles, the psychotic Harley Quinn, in Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). In the midst of all of these projects, Robbie also has another big reveal: a brand new Vogue cover. In honor of her second turn as a cover star, here are five things you didn’t know about the actress:
1. She Got Her First Gig by Cold-Calling
Robbie maneuvered her way to her first TV role, on the Australian soap opera Neighbours, by cold-calling the casting agent. It landed her an audition, which she nailed, and she then went on to become a series regular, playing teen Donna Freedman.
2. She Went to Circus School
When she was eight, Robbie was enlisted in a trapeze program by her mother at a circus school. It may seem like an unlikely skill, but flash-forward to 2016, and Robbie’s penchant for flying in the air almost became useful: she was at one point in talks to play trapeze artist Lillian Leitzel in Queen of the Air. (The project never happened.)
3. She Owns Her Own Production Company
In addition to being an A-list actress, Robbie also runs her own Hollywood production company with her husband, Tom Ackerley. Titled LuckyChap Entertainment, it has produced TV shows such as NBC’s Shattered Glass and Hulu’s Dollface. The company is also working on Robbie’s upcoming film, Birds of Prey.
4. She’s Obsessed With Hockey
Robbie is a hockey superfan, the New York Rangers being her team of choice. She explained her unlikely obsession to MTV, telling the outlet, “I always wanted to play ice hockey back in Australia. I’m not sure why, but we didn’t have any ice where I lived. It was very hot, a coastal town,” she said. “So, I played field hockey. But then when I moved to America, I was finally able to join a team once I wasn’t contracted to a show. When I was contracted to a show, I wasn’t able to play. I was living in New York, and the Rangers were my default team. They’re the best team ever.”
5. She Didn’t Even Audition for the Role of Harley Quinn
Though just about every Hollywood actress was being considered for the iconic Harley Quinn role in Suicide Squad, Robbie earned the role without even auditioning. “I actually got offered this one, I didn’t audition, which is a real step up as an actor when you can get offered things,” she said. Clearly, it was meant to be.
